My Favorite Email Program Is Now Free

By | January 31, 2006

The email program I have been using for the past seven years is now free (for the moment): Courier Email from Rose City Software.

Special Offer: For a limited time, Courier Email can be registered for FREE for unlimited use. Your free registration for Version 3.5 will never expire.

This registration won’t expire, but they’re working on version 4 (in fact they’re looking for a C++ programmer to help them finish it.

Courier used to be Calypso and I still think it’s the best email program around. Of course I’m biased, since I’ve been using it so long, but it has too many useful features for me to walk away from it. Check it out.

I can understand that you might be leery of say … Outlook Express. But how does Courier stack up against Thunderbird?

Akshay, I think Thunderbird is great, and I’ve tried it out in a few incarnations. But maybe it’s just me, but I find a couple of things better about Courier: rules are easy to apply, you can easily flag folders or messages, color-code them or whatever, it works well with POPFile, and, most importantly, I’ve been using it for so long the conversion costs are so high I’m loath to change! What do you use?

I use a both actually … you could say Outlook is the “primary” program and Thunderbird is the “working” program.

Thing is, I like Thunderbird, but all my calendar appointments, contacts (including phone numbers, birthday details, etc.), notes, and of course e-mails are in Outlook. Thunderbird is used primarily on my laptop to get an offline version of e-mails.

Other reason for using Outlook is that most phoen software to sync across Bluetooth connections – at least the ones I’ve come across – work with Outlook.

Thanks for that – I used to use Calypso a long time ago – several years past. I can’t remember why I stopped using it – I think it was because I switched to outlook with my corporate email account
