Do The Logo Motion

By | May 24, 2005

I’ve commissioned a new loose wire logo from GotLogos and was impressed by their service (one week turnaround, $25). But it speaks volumes about my lack of design skills that I can’t decide whether I like it or not:

It fits my request exactly. And the font, colours and sparse design are growing on me. But in the time-honored tradition of open media, I’m open to persuasion either way. So let me know what you think.

I have a feeling it’s a grower. I like the loose wire font, not sure about the wire/box thing just yet. Also I think the font they used ties in nicely with your main blog font. What you could think about rethinking is the right hand column colour scheme. I think sparse is the new link-like-mad. Similar to the way http://www.plasticbag.org has gone.

However, please note I am colour blind, although I do have an Art ‘O’ level

It looks a little like a street sign, which is kinda cool. Something about the loose wire is a little off…I think my brain can’t get past the wires being white…

i gotta say its worth every penny. looks more like an icon than a logo.
i’m not too keen on the colour scheme. it doesnt quite harmonize with the colour scheme of the blog. I know the brown is your colour. 😉 at least all the pics i have seen of you are that colour.
Agree with Mike, I think the wires could have been a dif. colour.
anyway, that is my 2c worth. cheers.

It reads “loose wire” wonderfully clearly. When I looked at it, though, I thought it was gray. I was expecting it to be golden yellow, like the warning signs.

I like it. I was going to use that service too, but was waiting to see some more of their capabilities before I sank a HUGE $25 into a new logo.

    It be Fine!

Sorry, but I don’t like it.

The first thing I thought of was that it was a hand snaking its way into the frame. Even now, I still can’t get that image out of my head. Can you? 🙂

I like the sign and the wire a lot, but I think you need a different background color for the sign and a more conventional “e.”

Isn’t a logo supposed to attract your attention? This one doesn’t. It is a low-key, notice-me-if-you-will-but-i-don’t-really-care-one-way-or-the-other logo. Maybe a more vibrant background color would be more alluring. But then again, maybe you aren’t trying to be alluring. If your primary audience is color-blind men, then I think it looks great. A lady might like a dash of color. The wire itself looks like a stick figure breakdancing. I do think they got the font right though. This said, my graphic design background consists of drawing doodles in the margins of memos. For $25, I think you got your money’s worth. Look at the discussion it has sparked!

It’s nearly there, but not completely. When I think of a LooseWire, I think of a blog/column about technology & how it sometimes might not work as planned (as in “a loose wire in the system”). I do NOT think of a broken, or ripped-out, wire … that to me implies something’s broken or bad.

Colors & fonts are cool …
